How we review

Every Rigworthy guide follows the same process. It's designed to be retraceable: read any guide, and you should be able to see exactly why each product is there and who it's for.

    Map the category

    We start wide: what problems does this product category actually solve, where do products fail, and what do owners complain about six months in? This defines the criteria for the guide — published in every article — before any product is considered.

    Build the longlist

    We pull candidates from manufacturer lines, retailer data, community recommendations (the enthusiast forums and subreddits where long-term owners are honest), and prior generations' track records. A typical guide starts with 15–30 candidates.

    Cut ruthlessly

    Products are eliminated against the criteria: under-specced weight ratings, missing adjustability, materials with known failure patterns, or prices that a near-identical product undercuts. What survives is a shortlist where every entry is the best answer for a specific kind of buyer.

    Match picks to buyers

    We don't crown one winner and pad the rest. Each pick gets an explicit role — best overall, best value, best for a specific need — and a plain statement of its trade-offs. If the budget option is the smart buy for most people, the guide says so.

    Revisit and update

    Prices move, product generations change, and long-term reports surface issues launch reviews miss. Each guide carries its last-updated date, and we revise when the market genuinely changes — not to freshen a timestamp.

Our use of AI

Rigworthy uses AI tools as part of our editorial process: drafting copy, organizing research, and assembling comparison data from publicly available specifications and sources. AI assistance does not replace our editorial standards — every guide is built against the research and verification process described above, and no guide is published with fabricated testing, measurements, or claims. Where a recommendation reflects genuine hands-on use rather than research-based analysis, we say so directly in that guide. Prices, specs, and product availability change; if you spot an error, please let us know.

What we will and won't claim

  • Our guides are research-driven: built on published specifications, manufacturer documentation, and aggregated long-term owner feedback. Where a recommendation comes from hands-on use, we say so explicitly in that guide — we never imply lab testing that didn't happen.
  • We don't publish numeric review scores. A “9.2/10” implies measurement precision this category doesn't support. Roles and trade-offs are more honest and more useful.
  • Prices are stated as typical street prices at the time of the last update and marked approximate — always confirm on the retailer's page.
  • Affiliate relationships never affect rankings, inclusion, or exclusion. The commercial side of the site is documented in our affiliate disclosure.
